C/S G.003 - INTRODUCTION TO THE COSPAS-SARSAT SYSTEM Issue 7

The formats for the messages that are sent between MCCs are defined in document C/S A.002, “Cospas-Sarsat Standard Interface Description”. These message formats are designed for automated processing by the computer systems in each MCC.

 The formats for the messages that are sent by an MCC to the SPOC of another country (which are also defined in document C/S A.002) are designed for the human readers to whom they are intended. These messages are further explained in document C/S G.007, “Handbook on Distress Alert Messages for Rescue Coordination Centres (RCCs), Search and Rescue Points of Contact (SPOCs) and IMO Ship Security Competent Authorities” and in document C/S G.010, “MCC Operator Handbook”.
